Comprendre les statistiques climatiques

Les médias annonçaient hier que « la première décennie du siècle aura[it] vraisemblablement été la plus chaude jamais enregistrée depuis que des données à ce sujet sont compilées, a annoncé l'Organisation météorologique mondiale lors d'une conférence de presse tenue en marge de la conférence sur le climat de Copenhague. »

Comment concilier cela avec le message des « sceptiques » qui disent qu'on n'assiste plus à un réchauffement depuis 1998 ?

D'abord, il faut noter que le « jamais enregistré » signifie en réalité « depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle :» ce qui relativise déjà l'ampleur de la nouvelle.

Consultons d'abord un graphique qui offre une perspective plus longue.


La température est bien en hausse, mais cela ne semble en rien une anomalie sur le long terme.

Et qu'en est-il de cette dernière décennie, comment peut-elle la plus chaude sans qu'il n'y ait de tendance au réchauffement depuis 1998 ? C'est relativement simple.

Comme on le voit, la température monte pendant la décennie 1990-1999 alors qu'elle se stabilise relativement pendant la décennie 2000-2009. Il est donc normal que la moyenne de 1990-1999 soit plus basse que la décennie 2000-2009. Évidemment, les gros médias comme Radio-Canada, la RTBF ou France 2, n'ajoutent pas plus que, bien que la moyenne de cette décennie soit un peu supérieure, la tendance n'est plus vraiment à la hausse depuis près de 10 ans et cela contrairement aux prévisions des modèles des centres comme le CRU qui servent de base aux prévisions catastrophistes.




De la précision des stations météorologiques


Peut-on en l'état prendre des décisions coûteuses et probablement sans effet notable sur le réchauffement (ou le « changement ») climatique ?

Monsieur le Secrétaire général,

   La science du changement climatique passe par une période de « découverte négative » — plus nous en apprenons au sujet de cette discipline exceptionnellement complexe et en rapide évolution, plus nous réalisons à quel point nous connaissons peu. En vérité, la science N'est PAS établie.

   Par conséquent, il n'y a aucune raison valable d'imposer des décisions de politique publique coûteuse et restrictive sur les peuples de la Terre sans d'abord fournir des preuves convaincantes que les activités humaines causent de dangereux changements climatiques au-delà de ceux résultant de causes naturelles. Avant que toute action précipitée ne soit prise, nous devons disposer de solides données d'observations démontrant les changements climatiques récents diffèrent substantiellement de changements observés dans le passé et sont bien au-delà des variations normales causées par les cycles solaires, les courants océaniques, les changements de paramètres orbitaux de la Terre et autres phénomènes naturels.

   Nous, les soussignés, qualifiés dans des disciplines scientifiques liées au climat, exigeons que la CCNUCC et les sympathisants de la Conférence sur le Climat de l'ONU produisent des preuves ISSUES DE L'OBSERVATION convaincantes à l'effet que, comme ils le prétendent, il y existe un réchauffement planétaires ainsi que d'autres changements climatiques causés par l'homme. Les projections de scénarios futurs possibles à partir de modèles informatiques du climat non prouvés ne peuvent pas remplacer les données réelles obtenues par la recherche scientifique impartiale et rigoureuse.

   Plus précisément, nous mettons au défi les partisans de la thèse d'un réchauffement climatique dangereux causé par l'homme de démontrer que :
  1. Les variations dans le climat mondial au cours des cent dernières années se situent bien au-delà des variations naturelles constatées lors des siècles précédents ;

  2. Les émissions de dioxyde de carbone et d'autres « gaz à effet de serre » (GES) ont un impact dangereux sur le climat mondial ;

  3. Les modèles informatiques peuvent reproduire de façon significative l'incidence de tous les facteurs naturels qui pourraient influencer le climat de façon significative ;

  4. La mer monte dangereusement à un rythme qui s'est accéléré avec l'augmentation des émissions de GES de l'homme, mettant ainsi en péril les petites îles et les communautés côtières ;

  5. L'incidence du paludisme est en augmentation en raison des changements climatiques récents ;

  6. L'humanité et les écosystèmes naturels ne pourront pas s'adapter aux changements climatiques prévisibles comme ils l'ont fait dans le passé ;

  7. Le recul des glaciers de la planète et la fonte de la banquise dans les régions polaires sont inhabituels et liés à l'augmentation des émissions anthropiques de GES ;

  8. Les ours polaires et autres animaux sauvages de l'Arctique et l'Antarctique sont incapables de s'adapter aux effets liés aux changements locaux du climat, indépendamment des causes de ces changements ;

  9. Les ouragans, divers cyclones tropicaux et les évènements météorologiques extrêmes qui leur sont liés ont augmenté en gravité et en fréquence ;

  10. Les données enregistrées par les stations terrestres sont un indicateur fiable des tendances de la température de surface.


Ce n'est pas de la responsabilité des scientifiques « réalistes » du climat de prouver que des changements climatiques dangereux d'origine humaine ne se sont pas produits. C'est plutôt ceux qui prétendent que ces changements sont dangereux et promeuvent des investissements massifs pour résoudre ce prétendu « problème », qui sont dans l'obligation de démontrer de façon convaincante que les changements climatiques récents ne sont pas principalement d'origine naturelle et que si nous ne faisons rien, des changements catastrophiques s'en suivraient. À ce jour, ils y ont totalement échoué.
